Festivals in Calabria

Festivals are very colourful and exciting, not to be missed by anyone visiting the region. Almost every nation has their own festivals and Italy is amongst those who embrace the joyous moment that a festival can bring. Even though it is quite a small nation, the different areas in this boot-leg country always have a reason to celebrate.

Being a religious country, Italy often has a religious celebration in honour of a patron saint. Every area in Italy, particularly Calabria has a patron saint of their own and the people never forget to hold a memorable festival in their honour.

Among the well noted religious festivals in Calabria is the Procession of Our Lady that takes place on the 15th day of August. This procession is held in many towns and firework displays end the wonderful celebration.

Moreover, aside from the religious festivals in Calabria, the gastronomic festivals are definitely worth visiting. Wine Festivals, Seafood Festivals, and Pork Festivals (popularly known as La Sagra di Maiale) are some of the many festivals celebrated in most of Calabria’s localities.

No month will pass by in Calabria without a festival celebration, so when you decide to visit this lively place, try not to miss the Corigliano Calabro Orange Festival and Procession in January, The Ancient Easter Procession in Laino Borgo every Good Friday, Saint’s Day Festivities in Diamante in December, and many others.
